‘You say tomato, I say tomahto’.
That line comes from a famous song by George and Ira Gershwin, written way back in 1937, called ‘Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off’.
It came to mind after Lifetime Office Manager Karen Lodge issued a ‘kind request’ to her work colleagues a few days ago.
She said: “My mum and dad volunteer each week at a drop-in kitchen, (BCDP – Barnsley Church drop-in Centre), providing approximately 100 cooked breakfasts for the homeless and/or needy.
“Unfortunately some of the supplies are depleting…with little funds to replace. So the pleading request is for donations of….wait for it…..tins of chopped tomatoes!
“If anyone could please donate a tin, or a couple of tins of tomatoes the BCDP (and my mum and dad!!) would be so grateful.”
The response from the Lifetime staff has been terrific (see picture below), with approaching 100 tins having been collected in all.
And here are the tins (see below) that came from just one particular Lifetimer, Financial Planner Girish.
Great effort Girish!!
We reckon that Gershwin song needs a tweak……
‘You say tomato, we say……’yes we’ll help!!’
