The number of mortgages approved for home buyers has risen to a six-year high.

Figures from The Bank of England show that the number of mortgage lending given pre-approval was 76,947 in January.

This represents the largest number of approvals since the early stages of the country’s banking crisis in November 2007.

Sales of homes reached one million last year, which is an increase of 15% on 2012.
