Lifetime Social Media Manager Andrew Lodge attended an excellent seminar on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ at the Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre on Tuesday lunchtime.
He came away glowing with the knowledge that Lifetime are right on track with our commitment to giving something back to the community!
What is corporate social responsibility?
Well, it is a company’s sense of responsibility towards the community and environment (both ecological and social) in which that company operates.
Companies often express their corporate social responsibility by:
A: through their waste and pollution reduction processes
B: by contributing educational and social programmes
C: by earning adequate returns on their employed resources
Tuesday’s event helped businesses gain a deeper understanding of responsible business practice and to consider what responsible business looks like in the workplace, the marketplace, the community and the environment; how to integrate responsible business practice into day to day operations; and delivered the latest research on employer sponsored volunteering.
Sarah Shaw, Business Manager at Business In The Community, Dr Jon Burchell, Senior Lecturer in CSR at The University of Sheffield Management School, Dr Joanne Cook, Reader in Organisational Behaviour at Hull University Business School and a representative from John Lewis all delivered excellent talks.
And Andrew came away thinking just what a leading and innovative role Lifetime has taken in social responsibility – ‘giving something back’ – via our commitment to hospices through the company referral scheme (https://www.lifetime-fm.com/lifetime-in-the-community/hospice-referral-scheme/) and our ‘Barnsley Businesses Inspiring Students’ venture a huge success (https://www.lifetime-fm.com/bbis/story-behind-bbis/).
