Desert Island Discs: Episode 22, Financial Planner Helen Holland:

It is a lot harder than it seems this choosing of Desert Island Discs! But here goes…..

Disc One: Lets Get Ready To Rhumble – PJ & Duncan 

I just absolutely love Ant & Dec, I watch everything they are in! I started watching them when they were in Byker Grove, and even bought their album! Yes, I was only one of a handful! This song always puts a smile on my face, as do they!

Disc Two: Wind of Change – Scorpion

Growing up I used to listen to the music of my parents quite a lot – music that was on tape and recorded off the radio mostly! Some was certainly better than others! This song reminds me of being sat in the car with my dad and brother waiting to pick my mum up from work! This song also has a second meaning to me too, as I visited Moscow in December 2003 and my friend Mark and I built a snowman in Gorky Park, and we were daft singing this song as we built it in the freezing cold and snow!

Disc Three: The Reason – Hoobastank

Not many people seem to know this song. I first heard it on a road trip through Canada’s Rocky Mountains and every radio station seemed to be playing it! It really reminds me of that holiday and it really was a great time.

Disc Four: How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding

When Craig and I got married we spent ages deciding upon songs, this was our first dance song, and we love it as it isn’t too soppy! We also had, for me to walk down the aisle Pachelbel’s canon in D; we signed the register to Starship’s Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now; we walked off together to American Authors, Best Day of My Life. I could have easily chosen any of those!

Disc Five: Firestarter – The Prodigy

I love The Prodigy’s energy! They were the first band/artist I ever saw in concert, it was at Doncaster Dome. On my desert island I need to get motivated, and song this will help! I also love Out of Space, No Good and Breath!

Disc Six: In Da Club – 50 Cent

Who doesn’t love this?!! It is just one of those songs that will get me up and on the dance floor, and for me to rap along to, pretending I’m ‘Gangsta’ for three minutes or so, LOL! I could have also chosen several Eminem songs, or Hands Up by Lloyd Banks. My music varies depending on where I am, who I’m with and what mood I’m in, so I like to have variety as you can probably tell from this random list of songs!

Disc Seven: Wooly Bully – Sam the Sham and the Pharaos

Okay, bear with me! So I love to be on the dance floor, I cannot dance I just move and think I can dance! So a song that has ‘a dance move’ is my ideal So this is the only song I can get my dad up and dance with me ever! I could have also easily picked Los del Rio, Macarena, or Jimmy Bo Home, Gimme Some!

Disc Eight: If Ya Getting Down – 5ive

So yes, I am a 5ive fan, J Brown was my favourite! This is the kind of song that when I hear on the radio, or anywhere really, I think I remember the lyrics when I don’t really but sing along anyway – and do some moves that were signature 5ive moves! They did love to count in 5ive songs didn’t they! I always feel like I’m having a good time when I hear this song. I really could have also picked Keep on Movin, Everybody Get Up, Slam dunk da funk, or Let’s Dance. Any really!

Choice of book: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, by William Shakespeare

I enjoy reading, especially crime novels, however once I have read them I don’t really want to read them again. So I’m thinking if I’m on this desert island I will need a long book to pass the time of day, so I will take the complete works of Shakespeare. I enjoy theatre and plays and feel this large book would last a while!

Luxury Item: Bear Grylls

My luxury item is Bear Grylls! Apart from him possibly making me drink my own urine at least I would survive the desert island!
